Mission statement of stop the bleed
The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma is leading the effort to save lives by teaching the civilian population to provide vital initial response to stop uncontrolled bleeding in emergency situations. This will be accomplished by the development of a comprehensive and sustainable bleeding control education and information program targeted to civilians that will inform, educate and empower the 300+million citizens of the United States.
Goals
  • To train first responders and medical professionals including police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors and nurses, how to stop bleeding in victims and themselves so they can teach classes in their communities
  • Provide at risk communities and neighborhoods around the greater Chicago area free for the public, Stop the Bleed courses
  • To place bleeding control kits, containing items such as dressings and tourniquets, in publicly accessible locations such as schools, community centers and arenas
