Call for Submissions:  2025 Resident and Medical Student Trauma Paper Competition

Resident Submissions:

The Chicago Committee on Trauma (CCOT) is now accepting submissions for the 2025 Resident Trauma Paper Competition sponsored by the American College of Surgeons- Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT).  

Specifications for Preparation and Submission of Abstracts:

1.            Scope: original basic science or clinical research in any aspect of trauma care.

2.            Eligibility: all general surgery and surgical subspecialty residents as well as trauma/acute care surgery/surgical critical care fellows.

3.            The abstract should be no more than three pages, single-spaced.

4.            States clearly: basic vs. clinical research.

5.            Abstract organized under the following headings: Title; Primary author; Other authors; Institutional affiliations; Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion and Conclusion.

6.            A principal author may have multiple submissions.

7.            All abstracts should be emailed to samuel.kingsley@aah.org

8.            The deadline for submission is Wednesday May 15th

9.            Abstracts submitted may have been previously presented but not published as full papers in any peer-reviewed journal before May 15th 2025

The winning submissions will receive $1000; second place submissions will receive $500 and third place $250.  

The first place winner in each category (clinical and basic science) will then move onto the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma Regional Competition which will be held in the Fall of 2025.  

Winners of the regional competition move onto the 2026 National Competition typically held in March.

Medical Student Submissions:

2.            Eligibility: all medical students in Allopathic or Osteopathic medical schools within the greater Chicagoland area.

3.            The abstract should be no more than three pages, single-spaced.

4.            The submission is organized under the following headings: Title; Primary author; Other authors; Institutional affiliations; Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion and Conclusion.

5.            A principal author may have multiple submissions.

6.            All abstracts should be emailed to samuel.kingsley@aah.org

7.            The deadline for submission is Wednesday May 15th

The winning submissions will receive $500; second place submissions will receive $250 and third place $100.

In person presentations are preferred however we will allow virtual presentations for those unable to attend.
